lock 19 adaptive reuse
Located just outside of Parkersburg, West Virginia, abandoned lock No. 19 has sat vacant for nearly 70 years. Though the building and site are public, there has been no attempt to repurpose the land for any formalized use. My aim was to reuse the site as a park to return the Ohio River back to the community in a variety of ways while also utilizing architectural interventions to solidify an identity for the Parkersburg community.
This project was selected to be presented to ORSANCO, an ecological outreach group focused on the Ohio River and its health. It was also recognized by the University of Cincinnati's 2021 Strategic Futures team in the category of Urban Systems.
